Happy Birthday PawPaw

The heart of Picalily Farm is family.

So, on Tuesday, to celebrate the birthday of our father-PawPaw (who passed away last year) we decided to all wear his favorite shirts, and have a family day.  My brother, also known as Funcle (Fun Uncle) came from Knoxville to join us for a couple days.

Funcle hadn’t met the goats yet, so we started the day with the goats’ breakfast.  It was love at first sight.  Luckily, the goats were on their best behavior, to win him over.

After all of our morning chores were done, we headed to one PawPaw’s favorite places, the Raleigh Farmer’s Market.  We love the Farmers Market no matter what season it is, but fall is probably our favorite!  They had a great supply of Pumpkins, Corn Husk wreaths, fall squash, mums and apples.  We picked up some Apple Butter, pumpkins, and some decorations for the yard.

Back at the farm, we played baseball, let the goats “free range” and cooked out on the grill.

Of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without cake.  We had picked up a Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake from a local bakery: Stick Boy Bakery.  It was amazing!!

It was a great day, and we love the tradition of getting together to celebrate a great man who loved his family more than anything else.

Happy Birthday PawPaw.
